Hello! Welcome to the School District of the City of Wyandotte. We are proud of our students and their achievements. We strive to meet each student1s needs by teaching a solid foundation of the basics (reading, writing, math, science, social studies), as well as computer skills, and a myriad of opportunities for travel, art, music, and athletic skills. MEAP scores are rising; the high school MEAP scores for seniors by their graduation is outstanding! Our students continually bring more success and honor to the District through their achievements academically, athletically, musically, artistically, and through their good behavior in community service, respect, attendance, and participation in school/community events.
I am extremely proud of our faculty and staff also. Among our teaching staff are many award winning teachers--most recently, the 2000 WAYNE COUNTY WDIV NEWSWEEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR, the 1999 WAYNE COUNTY WDIV NEWSWEEK ELEMENTARY & HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS OF THE YEAR, the 1998 Michigan Teacher of the Year, 1997 Southern Wayne County Teacher Leader of the Year, 1997 Michigan Consumer Educator of the Year, 1997 Law Related Educator of the Year, 1998 WDIV-Newsweek High School Teacher of the Year for Wayne County, 1996 WDIV-Newsweek Middle School Teacher of the Year for Wayne County, 1997 Michigan Science Teacher of the Year, and on and on. Our teachers, principals, and other support staff are committed to excellence for our students. Our staff provides extra activities for students and parents to improve/continue communication and student performance, such as evening music concerts, parent conferences, field trips, etc.
Our school buildings are safe, well maintained, and clean. Nutritious and child-appealing lunches are served in all buildings. Before & after school child care is provided on-site through the YMCA. Preschool programs are available on-site through grant programs, such as HeadStart, MDE, and special education. Community education provides tuition-based preschool, in addition to many other family-oriented programs.
Our Board of Education is committed to supporting students by providing up to date materials and well trained teachers/instructional staff. The Board of Education is a major employer in the community, with approximately 800 employees. The Board supports its staff through training, fair and competitive wages, and respects/listens to their professional recommndations. Board Meetings are televised from City Hall. Meetings are usually once a month (call 246-1070 for a specific schedule).
If there are questions, concerns, or you need more information about any aspect of the School District, please call my office or any one of our school buildings. We will get the information, or redirect your call/inquiry to get your question answered as soon as possible.
